The rapid development of the oligopoly of the three major cloud platforms - GCP, AWS, and Azure - and their strategies for competing with one another and growing their footprint in the enterprise market - has had a profound impact on independent software vendors (ISVs) of every size and in virtually every enterprise software category. It is critical for enterprise strategists, architects and software buyers to understand this impact and how ISVs are reacting in order to continue to realize the full value of their relationships with the ISVs and cloud platforms alike.

In this talk, Christina will explore such topics as:
  • what enterprises should demand of the cloud platform vendors to ensure that their ISV vendors can continue to deliver value effectively
  • which categories are at risk of being dominated by the cloud platforms’ own offerings hence threatening the survival of the ISVs previously serving those categories
  • which categories are unlikely to ever be successfully entered by the platforms themselves
  • the requirements imposed by the platforms on ISVs and the challenges these ISVs, particularly smaller and midsized organizations, face in maintaining their presence in all three ecosystems
  • why enterprises have a vested interest in ensuring a healthy ISV ecosystem to avoid platform lock-in and maintain their leverage
  • the nuanced differences for both vendors and buyers in the context of today’s multi-cloud world of different ISV delivery models from SaaS to managed cloud to self-managed in the cloud
  • a historical perspective on how this new cloud world compares to earlier platform ISV ecosystems
