[breakout B] Our Journey Towards Building a Cloud-Agnostic PaaS at UC San Diego IT Services

UC San Diego is reshaping its way of doing business. IT Services (central IT) is partnering with offices and academic departments across campus to deliver new smarter systems that will help optimize business processes to support the University's growth.  In order to support these new systems, IT Services is undergoing a significant transformation to shift from traditional monolithic application development and infrastructure to Software as a Service (SaaS) for many, if not all, core business applications and a modern integration platform.

Our CIO's vision is simple: containers first, develop the ability to achieve multi-vendor orchestration, avoid unrationalized vendor lock-in, and go open source wherever possible. Following those directives, we are building our own cloud based data and application integration Platform as a Service that we are branding iPaaS.  Our iPaaS consists of a data integration and streaming platform using Apache NiFi and Apache Kafka, as well as an application and microservices platform using Docker and Kubernetes. iPaaS allows all developers on the platform to use standard Development practices and automated solution delivery to deploy robust, flexible and re-usable integrations and APIs. Join us to hear more about iPaaS and how IT Services at UC San Diego is leading the change in technology through people.
